Solarflare and Penguin Computing Partner to Bring Best-of-Breed High-Performance Computing Solutions to the Financial Services Market
Penguin Computing, experts in high performance computing (HPC), along with Solarflare, the company pioneering 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE), announced today that Penguin Computing is designing and delivering Solarflare’s networking products as part of its financial services solutions. This partnership will bring together leading technologies for customers in the high-performance computing and data storage markets in the US and Europe, who are looking to increase network performance and reduce latency to gain a competitive advantage.
Penguin Computing simplifies supercomputing with customized industry solutions that are factory integrated, tested and delivered as turnkey compute and storage systems. Along with Penguin-on-Demand (POD), a specialized cloud solution for high-performance computing, the company has solutions for every HPC requirement. Penguin’s products for the financial services industry are focused on delivering the lowest latency systems that can be integrated in the most common data center environments. Penguin recently launched the Altus 1750 server, a dual socket 1U system built specifically to support the fastest clock speeds available for AMD Opteron x86 CPUs.
“We view Solarflare as a key technology partner. The company’s compelling product portfolio is an important component in our most advanced low-latency systems,” said Charles Wuischpard, CEO at Penguin Computing. “Our customers are looking for data center and high-speed solutions, and with the help of Solarflare, we can provide the performance required to meet these new demands of the financial services industry.”
Solarflare’s VAR program continues to attract new channel partners, which now include over 20 organizations that span the financial services and high-performance computing markets worldwide. The demand for Solarflare’s SFN5000 line of 10GbE server adapters and OpenOnload high-performance application acceleration middleware continues to increase, as they deliver the industry’s highest-performance, lowest-power solutions enterprise and scale out computing. The company’s scalable vNIC architecture leverages SR-IOV to accelerate virtualized applications, which is a critical component as more data centers look to leverage the benefits offered through virtualization and cloud computing advancements.
“We are witnessing the mainstream adoption of 10GbE, as customers are realizing the benefits this technology brings to next-generation data centers and are looking for solutions to address the new big data demands within their network infrastructure,” said Mike Smith, vice president and general manager of host solutions at Solarflare. “In order to meet this emerging need and capture market share, we are working diligently to locate valuable resellers worldwide that can help us best reach target customers that are looking for high-performance networking solutions. Our newest long-term strategic partnership with Penguin Computing will help us do just that.”
