Penguin Computing, experts in high performance computing (HPC) solutions, announced today that the company has been assigned a procurement contract by the University of Virginia on behalf of VASCUPP to sell hardware, software and services to member institutions. Under the terms of the contract VASCUPP members and any other public body nationwide can purchase hardware and software solutions from Penguin Computing on a discount schedule.
The agreement covers Penguin Computing's entire product portfolio including:
- Linux servers and workstations
- Complete application-ready HPC clusters
- Cluster management and workload management software such as Scyld ClusterWare
- Storage solutions
- Compute time on Penguin Computing's public HPC cloud 'Penguin Computing on Demand' (POD)
The nine colleges and universities participating in VASCUPP include: the College of William and Mary, George Mason University, James Madison University, Old Dominion University, Radford University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Virginia Military Institute, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, and the University of Virginia. All of these academic institutions collaborate on aspects of procurement for higher education to leverage economies of scale, while ensuring that their suppliers meet the highest quality standards.
