What To Expect

From first click to first day, we keep things simple and structured. Once you’ve applied to an open position, here’s what you can expect next.

Colleagues meeting together
  • Our recruiting team carefully reviews our applicants to best understand how your background, experience, and qualifications align with the position you’ve applied to. Remember that your resume should demonstrate both the skills needed to succeed in the role and the impact you’ve made in your previous endeavors.

  • If your application looks like a good fit, we’ll reach out through email to set up a 30–45 minute phone conversation. Don’t worry – while we are an AI company, we promise you’ll be talking to a real human. This call gives us a chance to learn more about you, your background, and what your goals are for your next opportunity. It also allows us to share information about our company and benefits, what to expect in the interview process, and answer any initial questions you may have about the details of the position, the team, or what life is like working in the Igloo.

  • While the exact number of interviews for an open position may vary, you can typically expect around 3 additional conversations. Depending on the role, these interviews may include:

    • A skills-based technical assessment or presentation
    • Interviews with teammates, hiring managers, leadership, and cross-functional collaborators
    • Opportunities for you to ask deeper questions about team culture, leadership style, and company goals

Your recruiter will let know what to expect ahead of time to avoid surprises and help you prepare.

  • After each interview, the hiring team meets to share feedback and decide on next steps. We always aim to communicate outcomes promptly regardless of the decision.

  • If it’s a match, we’ll talk you through our offer process and prepare you for a smooth start. Once you’ve signed your offer, we’ll complete a background check and outline you onboarding plan to get you all the tools you need to be ready for your first day.

  • Interview Prep Tips

We want you to feel prepared and comfortable throughout your conversations with us. Here are a few tips to help you glide into your interviews with confidence.

  • We value authenticity and curiosity. There’s no one “right” way to interview. We want you to be thoughtful, honest, and clear about what you’re looking for.

  • Review the job description and think about how your skills and experience connect. Be ready to talk through specific projects or challenges you’ve tackled that help demonstrate the impact you’re ready to make at Penguin.

  • Visit our About Us page and Resource Hub to read through our blog, press releases, and other content to get a better sense of who we are and how we work.

  • Nothing illustrates how you solve problems, collaborate with others, and drive results better than real examples. Curate a few examples of projects or deliverables you’ve been a part of that highlight both your thinking and your impact.

  • Interviews are a two-way conversation. As much as we want to learn about you, we also want you to interview us to make sure Penguin, the role, and our culture are the right fit for you and your long term career goals, so come prepared with questions

  • Test your technology (camera, microphone, internet connection) ahead of time, choose a quiet, well-lit space with a neutral background, and dress professionally. Practice making eye contact by looking at the camera, and minimize distractions to stay focused and engaged throughout the conversation.

  • Data review at table
